How to use Custom Spaces

Your guide to everything Custom Spaces has to offer.

Edit Mode

To customize your own virtual space, first make sure you've set up your account and created your space at www.kumospace.com/profile.

Already have a Kumospace account? Check out this article for a guide to upgrading your account to Custom Spaces!

Using the Edit tab

Once you've joined your Kumospace, click on the yellow Edit tab on the right side of your screen to begin furnishing your space and tricking it out with interactive features like music and videos!

Any host or co-host will be able to access the Edit tab (Reminder: hosts can appoint as many co-hosts as they'd like by clicking on the People button at the bottom of their screen). As long as the Edit tab is open, you'll be in Edit Mode and can make changes to your space at will. Simply close the tab to get back to Kumospace.

The Edit tab opens to reveal the Customize Room options: Flooring, Seating, Tables, Decor, Rugs, Activities and Custom. We encourage you to play around here, but we will run through the highlights in more detail in this article.

Note: Having the Edit tab open can also influence how you interact with furniture. Some objects will display a Settings button when you hover over it with your mouse while in Edit Mode

Turning on the Grid function in the top right corner of the Edit tab will help you align furniture and other objects perfectly. This function is off by default, so remember to tick the box to snap furniture to an invisible grid.

Flooring

Start with the Flooring dropdown, and choose from options like lush green grass, classic marble tiles, hard wood, carpet and more. Once you click on a Flooring option, count to three and watch the vibe of your Kumospace change right under your feet.

Place and move furniture

Click on the Seating, Tables, Decor, or Ground tab to choose from a wide selection of furniture and decor, including leather couches, a wine bar, plants, and colorful rugs.

After you click on the furniture you want, drag and drop it into your space. No heavy lifting required! Click on the curved arrow ⟳ buttons to rotate most furniture items.

Change your mind? You can easily delete items by clicking the x in the right-hand corner.

You'll be able to drag/drop/rotate/delete the furniture in your room at any time, so long as the Edit tab is open on the right side of your screen! Closing your Edit tab means that you’re leaving Edit Mode, and you’ll no longer be able to adjust the position of your furniture or see the Settings button.

Interactive Objects

Virtual Drinks

Give your guests a place to pour themselves virtual drinks by adding any (or all) of the following objects from the Activities, Decor and Tables drop-downs in the Edit tab:

You and your guests can grab a refreshing beverage after a long day at work simply by clicking on any of these objects.

Continue clicking until you get the drink of your choice:

YouTube Television

To set up a YouTube video in your Kumospace, go to the Activities dropdown and drag and drop the YouTube Television into your space.

Hover your mouse over the YouTube Television and select the Settings button that appears, and a pop-up will prompt you to add a YouTube URL of your choice. Simply add your link and start watching.

You'll also be able to choose options like Loop and Autoplay from this menu, and to adjust the Audio Range. Choose from Nearby or Full Room depending on your needs.

Note: Currently, this feature is asynchronous, meaning your guests won't necessarily experience the content at exactly the same time.

Check out this handy video tutorial on using the YouTube TV.

The Jukebox can get pretty loud. We recommend placing it in a dedicated "music room" and having a party! The Jukebox will play music no matter where you are in the room, but each guest will have to press "play" to turn it on for themselves.

Note that your browser cookie settings can interfere with the performance of the Jukebox.
To check your cookie settings in Google Chrome, click on Settings, then Privacy and Security, then Cookies and other Site Data. Under General Settings, select the second option: Block third-party cookies in Incognito, not options three or four.

Custom Images

Embed still images and logos

Make your space uniquely you by adding images or logos. To add whatever image you want, open the Edit tab and scroll down to the Custom dropdown. Select the Custom image object and drag-and-drop it into the desired position in your Kumospace. Hover your mouse over the Custom image object and click the Settings button, then paste in an image URL address when prompted.

  1.  To get the URL of an image from the Internet, simply select your desired image, right click on it and choose “Copy image address” from the dropdown, then paste the URL into your Kumospace using the above process. See this video for tips on how to import custom images from the Internet.
  2. If you need to upload a custom image from your computer, we suggest using a public hosting service e.g. Imgur Upload to resize or generate a URL link for your image. See this video on how to generate a URL for images from your computer.

Note: Currently, images can't be resized once uploaded. If you need to resize something, you can use public hosting services like Imgur Upload to resize custom images. For step by step instructions, check out our video tutorial on resizing images. Private accounts like Google Photos won’t display images for users who are not signed in, so we suggest hosting them publicly.

Pro user tip: Our rooms are 3200 x 3200 pixels.

Hover your mouse over the Custom link tablet, click the Settings button and a pop-up will prompt you to add the URL of the website you want to link to. You can also customize the text you’d like to appear on the tablet screen in your Kumospace. For more tips, scope out this video tutorial on using the custom link tablet.

Note: Unfortunately, some websites don’t allow iframes, so you won’t be able to open them directly from your Kumospace. If you see this error appear simply tick the box under Link Options, and choose to have your custom link open in a new tab.

Audio Circles

To facilitate conversation and Q&A sessions for speakers, you can add Audio Circles to your Kumospace. Provided the speaker stands in the center of the Audio Circle, all other guests within the circle will be able to hear them. You can choose between Normal and Loud audio ranges, depending on your audio range preference.

Open up the Edit tab and scroll down to the Ground dropdown. Select your preferred Audio Circle and drag and drop it into your space.

You can choose between Normal and Loud audio ranges, depending on your audio range preference.

Note: Placing an Audio Circle in your space will not have any actual effect on your chosen audio range. It simply serves as a visual reference.
