The basics of Kumospace

How do I move around?

There are multiple ways to move around in Kumospace.

  1. 🖱️ Click with your mouse or 👆 tap on your screen to where you want to go and your video will move to that location.
  2. ⌨️ Use your keyboard's Up, Down, Left, and Right arrow keys. These keys will move you up, down, left, and right, respectively.
  3. ✋ On a phone or tablet, swipe towards a certain direction. This will move you in that direction.  better-movement-30fps

Adjusting zoom.

You can zoom in and out to view more or less of your surroundings and other people in Kumospace. Zooming in and out can be easily done by clicking the plus (+) and minus (-) icons at the bottom left of the screen. Alternatively, pressing the + and - ⌨️ keys will do the same.

Expand.
Directly beneath the zoom buttons, you can also click on the expand icon to have Kumospace fill up your entire screen. Click on it again to return to normal view.

What is spatial audio?

Sound in Kumospace behaves like it does in real life. The closer you are to someone, the louder they sound. We call this spatial audio.

This technology allows groups to organically form and dissolve in different areas of the same space at the same time. In Kumospace, the best discussions don’t happen in dedicated breakout rooms, but fluidly and serendipitously throughout the room.

Who can hear me?
Around your avatar is a faint circle which represents your Spatial Audio Range. You can hear anyone inside this circle and they can hear you. Anyone outside the circle is out of "earshot." This is how you can have separate private conversations in Kumospace. You can hide the Audio Range Indicator and adjust the size of your Audio Range by clicking on "Settings."

If you have difficulty viewing the full audio range, try zooming out with the minus (-) icon at the top right of your screen.

How do I invite other people?
When you are in a Kumospace, simply click on "Share" at the top left area of your browser and copy/paste the link in emails or texts to friends, family, colleagues, or classmates in order for them to join.

If you are a host and have your own Kumospace, you can also share your unique Kumospace URL with others by going to your profile and copying your Kumospace URL.

Can I see everyone in the room at once? How do I navigate the space?
Simply click on the Map button at the bottom right corner of your screen. This will show you where everyone is in the room and include their initials. If you hover over their initials on the map, you can see their whole name.

Pouring a Drink.
Now that you know the basics, it's time to liven up the party! Most Kumospaces have a virtual bar and kitchen that allows users to grab a glass of wine 🍷 by simply clicking Pour Drink. As you hang out in the Kumospace you will empty your glass automatically (takes about 10 mins).

We are quickly building more drink options including soda and other non-alcoholic virtual beverages, so stay tuned!

How do I exit?
You can click the Exit button to leave the Kumospace, which is located near where you entered at the bottom center of the space.
Alternatively, you can just close out the browser tab, and disappear 💨. When using this method, we encourage you to say goodbye to everyone first!

How do I move between rooms in a multi-room space?
To move between rooms:
  1. Move towards the door and then click on the Exit button to leave the room you are in.

  2. This will bring you back to the waiting room. You can now see all the rooms in the space. Simply click on another room to enter it. You'll even take your virtual drink with you!
